中国的口罩制造狂潮降温，低端生产商亏损，投机者无奈退出舞台

4月，由于中国口罩制造业的兴盛，常州机械零件制造商莫晓义（音译）囤积了大量的熔毁织物和非织造布，这是制造口罩的基本原材料，当时价格被炒的很高。在60公里外江苏省的小岛扬中，家具制造商李阳（音译）也投资了200多万元制造了6条熔毁的生产线。然而，在当地政府关闭他的工厂前，李阳连一寸布料都还没有生产。如今，这两个人所拥有的材料和设备实际上已经一文不值，远低于他们当初赶上“口罩制造”这趟列车时的预期。疫情暴发期间，口罩业的巨额利润前景吸引了成千上万像莫晓义和李阳这样的投机制造商，他们对口罩制造一无所知，也没有经验，光凭着一腔“热血”随大流涌入所谓的风口，投入大把资金和人力，期待能发一笔意外之财。今年的前5个月，中国新注册生产或交易口罩的公司达70802家，同比增长126%，新注册生产或交易熔喷织物的公司达7296家，同比增长227%。但在今年5月，这种狂潮开始降温，口罩和熔毁织物的新登记数量较4月的峰值分别下降了70.84%和57.6%。尽管随着病毒在世界其它地区肆虐，口罩需求依然旺盛，但由于中国政府对无证/低端口罩出口的打击、许可证要求的收紧以及海外对劣质产品需求的减弱，这些只能制造低端口罩的投机制造商还是被迫退出了这个行业。业内消息称，大量出口海外的口罩发货量都走向了知名的口罩制造公司，那些希望赚快钱的投机商的机会正在减少。

In April, as China’s mask-making juggernaut was cranking up, Changzhou machinery part manufacturer Mo Xiaoyi stockpiled meltblown fabric and nonwoven fabric, both essential mask materials, at peak prices. Sixty kilometres away in Yangzhong, a small island in Jiangsu province, furniture maker Mr Li invested more than 2 million yuan (US$282,685) in six meltblown production lines, but could not manufacture a single inch of fabric before local authorities closed his factory down. Both men have been left with materials and equipment that are virtually worthless, falling well short of the windfall they had expected when clambering aboard China’s face mask gravy train, only to find that the wheels were already coming off. In the first five months of the year, 70,802 new companies registered to make or trade face masks in China, a 1,256 per cent rise from a year earlier. Meanwhile, 7,296 new companies registered to make or trade meltblown fabric, the vital component, an increase of 2,277 per cent from a year earlier, according to Tianyancha, a company registration information website. But the frenzy started to cool a little in May, with the number of new registrations for masks and meltblown dropping by 70.84 per cent and 57.6 per cent respectively from April’s peak.
In May, exports of medical equipment and supplies rose 89 per cent from a year earlier, with new pockets of demand popping up as the virus raged elsewhere in the world, even as many European and Asian nations appeared to have things under control. But despite this many speculative manufacturers have been forced to quit the industry due to changing export rules, tighter licensing requirements and weaker demand for inferior quality products.
Industry sources said that the bulk of the bumper overseas shipments are now going to established mask-making companies, with opportunities drying up for those fly-by-night operators who were looking to turn a quick buck.  source
