In California, in the week ending July 25, approximately 247,000 workers submitted new unemployment benefits applications. Approximately 57% of the applicants, or about 140,000 workers, marked "extra application", which means that they had already received benefits and returned to work, but now they are applying for benefits again because they are returning Lost work (or reduced working hours) after the job.

The unemployment situation in May and June actually recovered, with 7.5 million Americans returning to work. The unemployment rate fell from a peak of 14.7% in April to 11.1% in June, but it is still higher than any period since the Great Depression. But in fact, the number of unemployment applications across the country is still high. According to data from the Department of Labor, approximately 1.6 million Americans filed new applications for unemployment benefits last week. This is the 20th week, and more than 1 million people have applied for new benefits. And this is still more than twice the peak during the Great Recession.  source
