Playing computer games is a waste of time. Children should not be allowed to play them.

When it comes to playing computer games, the vast majority of people claim that children should not be allowed to play them. There are several concerns that people have on computer games. I admit that it's wrong to spend too much time on them, but whether children should not be allowed to play them needs further discussion.

First of all, children may easily be addicted to computers games. There are countless examples in society of students who are addicted to computers games and ruined their studies. My friend Jack used to be a top student in our high school, but he spent too much time on playing computer games and finally failed all the exams. It is the lack of self-control that leads to the addiction. For most children, they are mentally immature and cannot tell right from wrong, so it would be better to prevent them from playing computer games.

Secondly, children should spend their time on more positive activities instead of playing computer games. Many parents argues that playing computer games help their children spend their spare time. As far as I am concern, it is not wise to spend  spare time on computer games. We could help children use free time in a more efficient way rather than wasting it. For example, we can help them develop a hobby such as singing, dancing, playing musical instrument. Also playing sports is highly recommended.

Although computers games have more negative effects, we cannot ignore it's positive side. No one can deny that their first touch on computers starts from computer games. They help rise children's interests on computers. By playing computer games, children can have a better understanding on basic operations of computers. Also it motivates those children who want to major in computer science in the future. My cousin who works for Microsoft told me that computer games helped him view the magnificence of computers and motivated him to study hard in programming. With computer games, he would probably not work as a software engineer.

All in all, children should be allowed to spend some time on computers games but the time should be limited.
