PhD student position at Chinese University of Hong Kong

Applicants should have (i) a BS degree in Biomedical Science or related
discipline, MS degree is preferred; (ii) Ample experience in molecular work
such as cloning, RT-PCR,
Immunostaining and immunohistochemistry etc. Experience in RNA work (
Northern blotting, RACE cloning, FISH etc) is desired; (iii) A self-
motivated and diligent person. (iv) Admission requirement: proof of
proficiency in English: TOEFL exam (550 or above, or 213 or above for the
computer-based test; 79 or above for the Internet-based test), or IELTS >6.5
or CET 6; good GPA; degree certificates. Will be admitted before Sep. 2011.

We are interested in studying the function of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs,
including microRNAs and other families of ncRNAs) in skeletal muscle
development and skeletal muscle diseases.

A position for a PhD student in bioinformatics is available in the
Department of Chemistry Pathology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor or master degree in
informatics, bioinformatics or molecular biology with the experience on
programming in compiled languages such as C, C++, or Java and scripting
languages such as Perl or Python. Preferred students will also have
experience in at least some of the following fields: database programming,
web programming (e.g., Ruby on Rails, PHP), Linux administration,
Phylogenetic inference. Experience in genomics is desirable.

Admission requirement: proof of proficiency in English: TOEFL exam (550 or
above, or 213 or above for the computer-based test; 79 or above for the
Internet-based test), or IELTS >6.5 or CET 6; good GPA; degree certificates.
Will be admitted before Sep. 2011.

Research interest of our lab: implementation of software for next generation
sequencing data analysis including but not limited to ChIP-seq, RNA-seq,
Methylation-seq, and whole genome sequencing.  This PhD project is also
tightly integrated with the current research related to the gene regulation
in skeletal muscle myogenesis and molecular diagnosis of disease using next
generation sequencing technologies.
