School always collect information of the teaching performance of teachers and according to it, give teacher who has efficient teaching rewards. So which is more useful: evaluation by students or by other teachers?

Nowadays, under the fierce competition, many schools relate the reward of their teacher to the evaluation of their students. But, does, we may wonder, it benefit to regard students as an indicator? What about the evaluation of other teachers? Most people may argue that it is unreasonable to determine by student because student may evaluate the teacher with emotion, like the low grade lead to the bad evaluation. However, in my opinion, I would prefer the students as indicator rather than the other teachers.

Although, evaluating one’s performance in the round may needs expert skill which is the superiority of teachers, and, at the same time, with the others’ professional evaluation, one can easily make a great progress. For example, a teacher, who has just graduated and has no experience, teaches just in an insipid and stiff way, but with the evaluation of some experienced teachers, he can improve the way and make more efficient in class. Yet, under the stress of promotion and salary, some teachers will not disinterested to evaluate others, they hope to get more reward by staining others. So, under this matter, the evaluation of other teachers is meaningless.

Admittedly, students’ evaluation, in some case, will be influenced by the grade given by teachers or the strict management held by teachers despite the performance of teacher is common or even better. But, the disadvantage cannot veil the advantage for most time. The evaluation of students can help the teacher find out the flaws and deficiencies in his work, like does this method suit for students? Or can they follow with him? So that, the teacher can modifies the teaching method and the teaching speed to cater the students’ requirement, and thus make teaching more effective and efficient.

What’s more, with the students’ feedback, school can easily identify a performance of teacher, such as whether they teach perfunctorily or hard? Do they care about the condition of students? It is obvious that the student is the direct receiver who knows more about the genuine performance of a teacher, therefore, their appraisal will be more credible. In addition, it will also be an incentive for teacher to improve their teaching quality. The teachers will be more responsible for their students’ academic studying, spend more time and attention on the class form, so that the students can get the knowledge and enhance it better.

As a matter of fact, even though there is some disadvantage of students’ evaluation, the advantage should not to be neglected; it can improve the teachers’ responsibility and the teaching quality. But, to evaluating the performance of a teacher, students’ appraisal is not enough; it can combine with the assessment of other teacher and leaders and the performance of students. Only when the evaluating system becomes more and more completive, can the teachers’ performance by assessed fairer.
