Ph.D. Position in IE/Data Science in Arizona State University

An opening in Ph.D. positions in Industrial Engineers in the School of computing and augmented intelligence is available in the direction of Data Science and System Informatics. You can also choose another Ph.D. program in "Data Science, Analytics and Engineering". I am graduate faculty in both Industrial Engineers and Data Science, Analytics and Engineering. The graduate program of IE in ASU ranks 17 and Data Science, Analytics and Engineering is a new Ph.D. program in ASU that becomes available in last year.
Desirable applicants should have BS or above degrees in Statistics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineers, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering. The applicants should have 1) a strong motivation in data science, machine learning, statistics, computer vision, signal processing, spatiotemporal analytics, etc, 2) good knowledge in statistics and mathematics. 3) good programming knowledge in Python (preferred) or equivalent.

Dr. Hao Yan’s lab is one of the top in data science and analytics in industrial and system engineers.

I have many experiences in developing data science and machine learning algorithms in manufacturing systems, transportation systems. My papers have won 8 best paper awards in different journals and conferences. The student has opportunities to present at top IE conferences and CS conferences. (We just got a paper accepted by AAAI 2020). Many collaboration opportunities exist such as medical imaging, transportation modeling, smart city, smart and cloud manufacturing, etc.

The graduate program of IE in ASU rank #17 in 2017. The IE graduate students in working in the data science direction can often get jobs in Amazon, LinkedIn, Facebook, Apple, American Express, etc, often working with job title Data Scientist or Research Scientist given our great location and the strength of the program. ASU is located in the energetic Tempe city,  which is 20 minutes' drive to Phoenix and an international airport, two hours' drive to Sedona, four hours' drive to Las Vegas or Grand Canyon National Park, five hours' drive to Los Angeles or San Diego.  Tempe is in the middle of one of the United State’s most sprawling metropolitan areas, Phoenix, Arizona. It has its fair share of hip urban things like nice coffee shops, delicious craft beer, and excellent local, affordable dining. Tempe is also a great place for people like outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and landscape photography.
