Dr. Wan Du (https://sites.ucmerced.edu/wdu) from the University of California (UC), Merced, is looking for one Ph.D. student who may start in Spring or Fall 2023. This student will be supported by full scholarship to cover tuition fees and living expenses. If you are interested in Artificial Intelligence of Things, please send him an email.



Dr. Wan Du is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC Merced, USA. His group, including five Ph.D. students, one research associate, and undergraduate interns, is conducting cutting-edge research in Artificial Intelligence of Things, such as Deep Reinforcement Learning, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Wireless Networking Systems. Their research results have been published in top conferences (e.g., ACM MobiCom, ACM SenSys, ACM/IEEE IPSN, and IEEE INFOCOM) and journals (e.g., IEEE ToN, IEEE TMC, and ACM TOSN). He has received the best paper award in ACM SenSys 2015, the best paper runner-up awards in IEEE DCOSS 2021 and ACM BuildSys 2022, and the best demo award in IEEE SECON 2014.
UC Merced is the 10th campus of the UC system. We are near Silicon Valley. With 16 years, UC Merced has been ranked as #38 Public University and #93 National University in the U.S. (U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings). Applicants will not be admitted if they lack an acceptable proficiency score. Passing scores are defined below:
TOEFL: 550 on the paper test or 80 on the TOEFL iBT (internet-Based Testing)
IELTS: a score of at least 6.5
UC Merced's TOEFL iBT score requirements for admission consideration is an overall minimum score of 80. The minimum scores on each section are as follows:
Writing: 19
Speaking: 26 (see * below)
Listening: 17
Reading: 18
UC Merced's IELTS score requirements for admission consideration is an overall minimum score of 6.5. The minimum scores on each section are as follows:
Writing: 5.5
Speaking: 8 (see * below)
Listening: 6
Reading: 6
*Under special circumstances a TOEFL Speaking score below 26 may be accepted towards admission as long as an overall score of 80 is maintained. Similarly, under special circumstances an IELTS Speaking score below 8 may be accepted as long an overall score of 6.5 is maintained.
