UMass Amherst CS Ph.D. openings in Robotics, AI and ML



Prof. Hao Zhang has multiple openings for fully funded Ph.D. students to work on robotics, AI and ML in the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Specific research topics include lifelong collaborative autonomy, robot learning and adaptation, multi-robot collaboration, and human-robot teaming. Students will have access to state-of-the-art robotic systems and opportunities to perform interdisciplinary research in the real-world robotics applications of connected autonomous driving, environment exploration and reconnaissance, and manufacturing.  More information can be found on the website of Prof. Zhang's Human-Centered Robotics Lab: https://hcr.cs.umass.edu/.

Prof. Zhang is looking for highly self-motivated students, who are passionate about robotics, AI and ML, and with strong mathematical backgrounds and rich programming experiences. Bio: Prof. Zhang is an Associate Professor in CICS @ UMass Amherst, where he directs the Human-Centered Robotics Lab. His research focuses on lifelong collaborative autonomy, with the goals to enable intelligent robots to operate over long periods of time and naturally collaborate with humans and adaptively work with other robots as teammates. Prof. Zhang is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and a DARPA Young Faculty Award (YFA). He publishes at top robotics conferences and journals, and has received multiple best paper nominations and awards. He also regularly serves as an area chair, associate editor, or reviewer for RSS, CoRL, ICRA, IROS, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, IJRR, TRO, and RA-L.
