Fully Funded PhD/RA/PostDoc in RL

A fully-funded PhD position is available in a joint PhD program between Duke Kunshan University and Westlake University, with an expected start date in Fall 2027.

Duke Kunshan University (https://www.dukekunshan.edu.cn), a partnership with Duke University, is located in Kunshan (15 minutes away from Shanghai via high speed train) and Westlake University is located in Hangzhou.

The research topic will be related to reinforcement learning and AI alignment (in the context of large language models). In this program, the PhD student would spend the first year at Westlake University and the remaining four years at Duke Kunshan University. International exchange (e.g., semester visit of international lab) during the PhD is possible. Note that the PhD degree will be delivered by Westlake University.

The main PhD advisor is Paul Weng (https://weng.fr/), associate professor at Duke Kunshan University. The second PhD advisor is Yandong Wen, assistant professor at Westlake University.

The ideal candidate should be already familiar with (deep) reinforcement learning and have some research experience. S/he should be proficient in Python programming and know frameworks like Pytorch or TensorFlow. In addition, s/he should be self-motivated, hard-working, rigorous, open-minded, and have an excellent (written and oral) English, which will be the working language.
