I'm actively looking for motivated PhD students in computer science who are passionate about making computer systems and mobile devices more secure. Specifically, I'm looking for students with a strong background in systems (operating systems, networking, architecture) with the ability to explore security related issues and build realistic proof of concepts. Expertise in machine learning is a big plus.

Bio:

Dr. Anys Bacha is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Dearborn Campus. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Bacha was a lead R&D engineer at Hewlett-Packard. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on developing secure and energy efficient computer systems, and investigating new synergies between mobile and cloud computing to meet the demand of emerging workloads. Dr. Bacha has 13 years of Research and Development experience with Hewlett-Packard where he worked on a variety of subsystems at the hardware, firmware, and OS levels. In 2014, Dr. Bacha served as a lead R&D engineer on a multi-million dollar scalable computing project that broke world records in performance. He won The Ohio State CSE Graduate Research Award and is the recipient of the Mike Liu fellowship. Dr. Bacha has authored publications in top architecture conferences and has 12 issued and pending patents both in the U.S. and across the world.
