Hi ( ),
I am currently a ( ) student and this is my ( )st semester at ( ) Unviersity. I am now taking the course online in China and still waiting for the US Ambassy to reopen and file me F-1 visa. I think the courses are quite good and the professors and TAs help me a lot. I am looking forward to being in ( ) on site next semester.
Most of the students who applied for the ( ) University especially ( ) program are aimed at working in the United States in the future, the good reputation and the high rate of entering big companies impressed us and we gathered here in ( ).
Now after international students graduate from the school and if they have already found an employer who is willing to hire them, they can work immediately after the OPT is approved. However, the DHS has proposed a new rule to change admission period structure for F visa Nonimmigrants and add a new process called EOS, which currently will take half a year or more(if it is realy implemented on F-1 students this process will for sure take much longer time), which prevent international students from working in US( companies will merely be willing to wait so long time for a new grad one).
I know for citizens and permanent residents it is not so important and ignorable, but for us, who want to work in the US, it really means a lot. If the proposal is passed, the road of taking a master and working in the US will be heavily influenced, or almost blocked. The universities will be influenced heavily by this proposal too, there wil be far less international students and the quality of students will be worse.
As I know, this fall 2020 more and more students are already considering applying universities outside US like Singapore, UK or Canada, if the proposal passed, the trend will continue. As a student of ( )University, I want our university to be better, and I will be proud of being an alumni of ( ) in the future. I think you and other faculty members will too.
The proposal is aimed at reducing the ovestay of international students, but in fact international students and exchange visitors are the most tracked by ICE and the current D/S has no evidence of increasing visa overstays. The new proposal will limit the duration of visa, but we all know that D/S is good policy that allows for the flexibility necessary for pursuing education. Like here in ( ) program, we can graduate in flexible duration considering the different choices that students make, if the proposal implement, we will have less choice, which makes ( ) program lose part of its charm.
I hope that ( ) University can take the responsibility of a good university, like the Harvard and MIT, who are defending students' rights, and show your attitude of objection towards this proposal, your voice carries far more weight than us. Me and many of international students have also submitted formal comments on DHS official website, we still want your help because we think your objection will speak louder than hundreds of us.
Thank you so much!
水平有限,想不到什么很新的点子发在DHS官网上,就想着通过提醒校方能贡献自己的一份力量, 校方毕竟话语权还是比小小个人有分量。
