The Department of Mechanical Engineering is inviting applications for a post-doctoral researcher beginning immediately. We seek a passionate individual who will contribute to the growing research in additive manufacturing of polymer composites at Clemson. The research involves both fundamental and applied research on computational modeling and analysis of process-microstructure-property relationships in polymer composite additive manufacturing. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to conduct independent research but also contribute to current faculty efforts under the direction of Dr. Gang Li. Responsibilities include (1) plan and execute cutting-edge research and develop computational models for the analysis and optimization of polymer composite additive manufacturing processes; (2) implement models and build computational tools in collaboration with other researchers; (3) publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences. Support is available for two years with the potential for renewal.
The ideal candidate would have demonstrated expertise in (1) theoretical and computational solid mechanics applied to process-microstructure-property modeling and analysis of solid materials, (2) finite element analysis, and (3) code development in C/C++ or other programming languages. Knowledge in multiscale and multiphysics modeling methods is a plus.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely related field. Applicants should submit a single PDF file containing a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, and a minimum of three references with full contact information. Application material should be submitted electronically to gli@clemson.edu. The search will remain open until the position is filled.
2. Graduate Research Opportunity
Research assistantship (RA) is available for graduate students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree. The research will focus on modeling and computational analysis of complex material systems (metals and polymer composites) as well as developing state-of-the-art simulation tools. The ideal candidate should have completed his/her Master's degree by the time he or she joins our group, have a strong interest in computational science and engineering, have a solid background in solid mechanics, heat transfer and numerical methods, and have working knowledge of at least one programming language. If you are interested in this RA position, please contact Dr. Gang Li at gli@clemson.edu with a copy of your resume.
