【导师简介】Dr. Guanyi Wang is an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, National University of Singapore. Before joining the NUS, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Polytechnique Montréal, under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Lodi from July 2021 to Jun 2022. Guanyi Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization (ACO) from the Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at Georgia Institute of Technology, in May 2021, advised by Dr. Santanu S. Dey. Before joining Georgia Tech, Guanyi Wang received a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Johns Hopkins University, advised by Dr. Amitabh Basu, and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology Beijing.

【研究方向】Ourresearch lies broadly in mixed-integer programming (MIP), nonlinear optimization, statisticallearning, and machine learning. On the theoretical side, we are interested in developing fundamental optimizationmethods with guarantees. In particular, we focus on optimization problems arising from statistics and machine learning with structured sparsity. On the application side, we are broadly interested in proposingscalable and tractable algorithms for real applications, including but not limited to large-scale dimensionality reduction,feature selection, traveling salesman problem and its variants, fairness of decision-makingproblems, and model compression in deep learning.

【申请要求】We are looking for self-motivated Ph.D. students with solid mathematical backgroundsand coding skills. Specific requirements are listed below:

• A BS degree or MS degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, ElectricalEngineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field;
• Solid mathematical backgrounds (e.g., mathematical analysis, advanced algebra, probabilityand statistics, optimization, etc.) and coding skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, etc.);
• Research experience is preferred but not required.
  

As a Ph.D. in my group, you will have the flexibility to choose any research directions that you are interested in within the broad areas described above. You can do internships or visit other universities during the summer; research assistant (RA) position is also available in the summer if you decide to stay on campus.
