Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Government should not provide financial support to artists (For example, painters, writer, musicians …), and the government should let them support themselves.



Nowadays, the government wants to support various professionals from different areas in order to develop a well-balanced society. Unexpectedly, there comes a heated discussion on artists. Some people suggest that artists could support themselves as they come from wealthy families. On the contrary, from my perspective, the government should provide financial support to the artists.

First of all, providing artists with financial support could enable them to invest more time in producing artwork of high quality. In an interview, LangLang, a well-known Chinese pianist, thanked the financial support from the Chinese government with his full heart. To illustrate more, he said that he would not need time to think about earning money to sustain his daily life when he is preparing for the international concert. There will be a different story if this is not the case. Artists need to spend most of their time finding other jobs to keep up with their daily expenses.

Furthermore, more poor people would have the chance to pursue their art careers in other countries with financial support from the government. While giving online classes to the poor students in Gansu Province, I met Emily, a talented painter. She could draw beautiful comic characters with pencils and crayons. One of her dreams is to take further education abroad in order to advance her drawing technique. Luckily, her dream came true. With all her expense covered by the government, she is able to learn the best drawing technique at a famous University in America. If the Chinese government did not support Emily financially, she would not have had the chance to learn abroad and major in art.

From my point of view, it is vital for the government to provide financial support to artists because they could devote themselves more to producing better artwork and they would have the chance to learn the best technique abroad.
